The greatest benefit of Pilates for dancers is core strength. I have a lot of clients with children who dance. We see a lot of injuries and strained muscles. Dancers require the strength and control of an athlete and Pilates gives better alignment of the hip, knee and ankle joint which improves balance and performance. Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility, coordination, muscular endurance, balance and good posture, all essential for dancers. It has been tried and tested for athletes / sportspeople / climbers / golfers / dancers giving core strength and allowing better performance consistently. If you are prone to injury or wish to prevent the onset of injury, regular Pilates classes and stretching can help.
Pilates strengthens tiny muscles all over your system and around your organs for overall health and movement. Quality sleep is paramount for any athlete who want to perform at their best. Some studies suggest that hours of sleep missed can’t be made up so make quality sleep a part of your weekly routine. We also are aware that great nutrition equals a great performance. Part of any training plan is a steady nutrition plan looking at what to eat for years before the event not just the day before.
